Professional discussions at Photonics 2019

06 / 03 / 2019

The first organisational meeting of the interdepartmental science and technology council at the State Research Centre of Laser Medicine at the Skobelkin Laser Medicine State Research Center of the Federal Bio-Medical Agency of Russia was held as part of the Photonics. World of Lasers and Optics 2019 exhibition.

The decision to reinstate the interagency expert council that earlier operated under the Laser Medicine State Research Center was taken by the Photonics Expert Council under the State Duma following the discussion of the topical issue of laser technology use in medicine at a Duma session.

According to Ivan Kovsh, President of the Laser Association (Russia), the development of laser technology in medicine is not as rapid and extensive as it should be. During the discussion of organisational issues, he pointed out that in addition to providing advisory and expert services, the council should be an organising body that would facilitate the laser technologies development and use in medicine and promote laser medicine capacities.

It is expected that the new council members will include authorised representatives of the Russian Ministry of Health Care, the Federal Bio-Medical Agency, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and other competent organisations and agencies.

During workshop conferences of the 8th Congress of the Photonics Technology Platform, experts continue discussing prospective directions for the industry development.

One of the conferences was devoted to the development of quantum programs and technologies in Russia and worldwide. It was noted that in the Industry 4.0 era, quantum technologies may offer many new solutions. Their spheres of application, such as quantum computing, data transfer, sensitive elements development, etc., were discussed.

Remarkable presentations were also delivered at conferences on fiber light conductors and fiber-optic components, photonics units and devices for research instrument making, on optical sensors, electro optical and holographic technologies, radiophotonics, photonics metrological support, photonics technologies for hothouse facilities.
