The European Commission has acknowledged Photonics as one of the ‘key-enabling-technologies’ which is needed to solve the major problems of the modern society: usage of less resources, information technologies, medical diagnosis and therapy, increase of production and the improvement of the public transport system, these are the main targets of Research and Development for the future.
In all these fields modern optics and photonics are needed as a key competence, provided by many different faculties, universities and companies from all over Europe.
One of the best opportunities for their representatives to get in touch, speak with each other, show one’s competencies and to shape the future is being present at an international exhibition like the PHOTONICA 2010.
Let all seize PHOTONICA 2010 to pave the way for a scientifically, technically and last but not least economically successful future for optics and photonics in the CIS counties and the whole of Europe.
Today, the EOS – European Optical Society is one of the largest societies for optics and photonics and is recognized as a valuable player in Europe. The current EOS Branches and Affiliated Societies exist in 20 European countries. Together we have a strong voice on the European level which we would like to use in a constructive manner.
However, to do a good job we need common understanding of photonics importance for economy, we need working areas for representing laser – optical products and ideas to the other branches of industry. "Photonica 2010" is one of such working areas, places of information exchange and cooperation stimulating.
