Dear friends,

Exploration of advanced photonic and laser optical technologies is a major direction of Russia’s innovative activity. These technologies are essential for implementation of the government policy on radical modernization of Russia’s economic model and to accelerate social and economic development of the country.

The Photonica International Exhibition is the only effective platform in Russia able to demonstrate scientific achievements and a wide array of production-ready laser optical equipment, to facilitate interaction between designers and users of this equipment, and to stimulate their innovative activity.

The exhibition is awarded with the labels of UFI – the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, and RUEF – the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs. It enjoys the auspices of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Moscow City Government, and is held with the support from the European Optical Society and the Belarusian State Committee for Science and Technology.

We are glad that the Photonica Exhibition continues to develop despite economic instability and shows considerable potential for growth, combining the efforts of scholars and businessmen for tackling practical problems of this sector. It has become a meeting place bringing together Russian high tech engineers, scholars, businessmen and government officials: those who are driving the innovative development of the Russian economy.

Just as before, the programme of business related events will cater for the interests of specialists and present such dedicated day-long events as the ‘Lasers in Industry’, the ‘Laser Medicine’, the ‘Photonic Technology for Control and Management Systems’ and the ‘Business Technology’.

The delegates to the ‘Photonics: Innovative Potential’ workshop and a series of round table discussions will address topical issues related to the development of the laser optical industry, the scope of application of photonic technology, and staff training issues.

The programme will feature presentations of new programmes and draft laws, scientific publications, samples of state-of-the-art laser equipment and innovative projects.

The members of the Board of the CIS National Experts on Lasers and Laser Technology will meet Russian specialists that are currently working for international laser optics centres and will discuss the opportunities to expand international cooperation on laser optics.

The Laser Association officials will announce the results of the contest for the best project on lasers and laser technology, and give the awards to the winners.

I wish you every success in your business.
