Photonics. World of Lasers and Optics'2009, 4th International Specialized Exhibition for Laser, Optical and Optoelectronic Technologies

April 20-23, the 4th edition of the Photonics. World of Lasers and Optics International Exhibition for Laser, Optical and Optoelectronic Technologies was successfully held at Expocentre Fairgrounds.
This main national event in the field of laser and optical industry organized by Expocentre and the Laser Association was held with the support and assistance of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Belarus State Committee for Science and Technology, the European Optics Society (EOS), the Technology Center of the German Engineering Association (VDI-TZ) and under the patronage of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Government.     
The high standard of organization of this unique show and its contribution to the industry development is confirmed with the label of the Russian Union of Exhibitions and Fairs (RUEF).
Over a short period of time the exhibition gained professional significance and high prestige.
This year the exhibition has increased by almost 20%. 139 companies from 13 countries participated in it. The total exhibition space of the event amounted to approximately 6,000 sq m.   The compact exposition, extremely saturated with new developments, demonstrated the modern capabilities of laser technology, optoelectronics and optical instrument-making.  It was attended by over 6,500 visitors, 94% of whom were professionals of the industry.
This year the exhibition has got encouragement from the Russian Federation State Duma. In his speech at the opening ceremony Andrey Kokoshin, the first Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Science and High-End Technology,  said that the Photonics. World of Lasers and Optics’2009 International Exhibition was an important event for the Russian, CIS and Europe scientific and technical community. He also noted that laser and optical developments were a catalyst for the modern technologies and production development.

It is important for the further development of the Russian research in the field of photonics to cooperate with CIS partners, first of all with the Republic of Belarus, and European companies including the ones from Germany wide represented at the exhibition. The participation of foreign companies in the show during the financial instability became an excellent chance to strengthen existing relations and to establish new ones.

According to Dr. Holger Junge, Head of Secretariat of the European Experts’ Council “Technology Platform “Photonics 21”, “photonics is a locomotive of the modern economics innovation development. This high tech industry rapidly develops and creates new and new technologies, products and working places in many other industries. Russian scientific institutions and engineers have made and continue making an important contribution to the scientific and technical progress practically in all the spheres of photonics. Today European institutes and companies are leaders in a number of laser and optical products and technologies. Our cooperation is mutually beneficial and useful in this field. Therefore it is necessary to extend and strengthen such cooperation”.  

This year the exposition has become more diverse. Laser and optical equipment and technologies that are used in practically all economics branches and industries were showcased at the exhibition. Visitors got acquainted with interesting ideas, original technology, functional equipment and met potential partners. Today during the crisis the application of new laser engineering is not only useful but saving for many companies.

During Photonics. World of Lasers and Optics’2009 exhibition many renowned foreign companies including Hamamatsu Photonics (Sweden), NP Photonics (USA), Synova (Switzerland), TRUMPF (Germany) showcased their products.
Over 100 leading domestic companies and manufacturers including Avesta Project, Laser Center, IRE- Polyus, LOMO, Polyus, Spectrum Laser, Laser Technologies Centre and Elektrosteklo and others showed novelties of the laser and optical products.
Photonics. World of Lasers and Optics is a comprehensive event that includes demonstration of high technology, participation in workshops and round tables. It helps to organize production and technology development in a proper way.

 For the first time the exhibition’s programme of business-related events included thematic days that allowed professionals to exchange opinions and experience and discuss a number of industry-related issues and tasks. 

The first day of the exhibition was declared the Industry Day. The issues and prospects of practical application of laser and optical technologies in the real economy sector were discussed during business-related events. These issues were put on the agenda of the joint meeting of the LAS Supervisory, and the Scientific and Technical Boards and the Photonics Exhibition Programme Committee. Representatives of the Russian industrial and scientific enterprises and organizations discussed the issues concerning the projects realization structure and mechanism in the field of photonics. The European programme of development and realization of the photon technologies was presented.

The working seminar aroused a keen interest. 60 representatives from industrial enterprises and scientific organizations of the laser and optical industry took part in it. In the course of the seminar the latest laser processing equipment developments were presented. New projects were offered by Bulat, OOO (Zelenograd); ITPM CO RAN (Novosibirsk); NPP Istok (Fryazino), Triumph (Moscow representative office), VNITEP (Dubna) and others. The seminar participants exchanged opinions and discussed specific proposals for application of the latest laser engineering for the different spheres of the Russian economy.

At the Anti-Crisis’2009 round table delegates of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Moscow Government discussed urgent issues of innovation development and company management during the times of economic hardships.

The second day of the Show business programme of events was devoted to science and education.  Recent scientific developments, advanced projects and ideas were presented by Russian and foreign scientific institutes, enterprises and organizations of the laser and optical industry. For the first time within the bounds of  the “Photonics.World of lasers and optics - 2009” exhibition  the Dioptic GmbH company (Germany) and the Institute of automation and electrometry of the Siberian department of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IA&O CO RAN)  held the Russian and German seminar on the optical interferometry for precision measuring.  Representatives of these organizations demonstrated both their own and join scientific developments. The level of great demand for the suggested developments was estimated and useful business contacts necessary for their further advancement to the market were established.  The German company Wista Management GmbH held the seminar devoted to the optical technologies, developed by the leading scientific institutes of Germany, including the Institute of physics of the Berlin Humboldtite University and the Institute of scientific instrument-making (Berlin). German specialists shared the experience of the advancement of optical technologies in Berlin-Brandenburg Land. The reports of scientists were devoted to trends and approaches to fundamental nanophotonics, new laser systems and technologies.
The breakthrough trends in the photonics were discussed during the scientific and practical conference organized by the Laser Association Scientific and Technical Board.
The issues of education and personnel training for the laser and optical industry were a topic at the round tables with representatives of leading Russian specialized colleges and educational and scientific centres participating.  Educational programmes in the field of photonics and personnel training for this industry were presented by FGUP NII Polyus, MFTI, MGU, Bauman MGTU, NTO IRE - Polyus, the Tomsk State University and other colleges. 
One more working seminar – Potential of the Laser Medicine for the Russian Healthcare of the 21th Century – took place within the Day of Medicine, Science and Innovations. It was organized by GNC of Laser Medicine, the Moscow State Duma Healthcare Committee, the State Duma Committee of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Healthcare and the Laser Association.  A number of issues on the laser medicine development in Russia and its practical application in the public healthcare were a theme for discussion. An experience of the laser technologies practical development on eye disease treatment, laser technologies success in the treatment of oncological diseases, application of laser technologies in the surgery and therapy was demonstrated at the seminar.    
Within the Day of Medicine, Science and Innovations working seminars on application of laser technologies to agriculture and on the issues of innovation projects investment were arranged.
The Day of Advertising and Show Technologies was the last day of the exhibition business related programme. That day there were held an organizing session of the Laser Show Systems and Displays LAS section and a working meeting of the Laser Association Scientific and Technical Board with delegates of the OptecNet Deutschland Association. At the round table specialists exchanged opinions on one of the key issues of the laser industry, namely operating safety of laser engineering and equipment. 
The Photonics. World of Lasers and Optics’2009 Exhibition not only demonstrated achievements and trends of the industry development but also gave wide opportunities for business communications, discussion of possible joint projects, establishment of business relations to promote laser and optical technologies into all the spheres of our life.
